Lyrics

Children Playing In the Afternoon

The playground sparkles in the sun
Near the meadows and the lake.
The children slide and swing with freedom and ease-
Giggles, sighs and screams and games only they make
I'll think of summer though it's gone too soon
And children playing in the afternoon.

The children trip and tumble down
The windy breeze blows through their hair.
They'll return to school, their toys put away-
But today they play so peaceful- they don't care
I'll think of summer though it's gone too soon
And children playing in the afternoon.

The children grow, their summer's end
Simple joys become passe
The grownup world is full of turmoil and pain-
But for now there's summer and children at play
I'll think of summer though it's gone too soon-
And children playing in the afternoon.
